Easy Way To Install A Ceiling Fan
Attaching a ceiling fan is an easy job that you can do yourself. By being little careful, you can successfully do the connection. Use right size of nuts for making the connections and tightly close them. Properly cover the connections with an electric tape to avoid any shock.
Mostly all the ceiling fans have 4 wires or say 3 wires plus a ground wire. Their colors are black, white, green and an additional color (usually red, blue, or black/white striped).
Out of four wires, black wire represents the hot lead of the fan whereas red/blue/striped wire represents hot lead of the light kit (optional). White wire represents the neutral lead of ceiling fan as well as light kit and green wire represents the ground wire for whole assembly.
Now start connecting the wires of fan to the home wiring. Start with the neutral wire connection. The neutral wire of fan that is white in color is required to be connected with the neutral wire of house (white color). Also check if the white wire of your ceiling fan has a colored tape over it then that may signify that this wire should not be used as neural wire.
Green wire of ceiling fan is required to be connected to ground wire of the house wiring. The ground wire of home wiring connection could be bare or green in color. In case ground wire is missing in your home then grounded connection can be provided from metal conduit or electrical box and you need to attach the ground wire of your ceiling fan to them.
Now you are left with two leads associated with the ceiling fan. These are the hot wires for the ceiling fan and its light kit. In case your ceiling fan doesn’t have a light kit then connect the black wire to the hot lead (usually black) from your power supply.
Other case could be that you are fixing the light kit along with your ceiling fan. In this case for providing connection to both of them, connect their hot terminals to the black lead in your home electric wire. But make sure that operating switch of both is separate.
After this your job is done. Like this you can easily connect a ceiling fan. However, you may face problems while doing it for first time, so call an expert who can help you in doing it successfully.
