Ideas To Find Household Decor At Low Prices

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

To turn a house into a home you need to put your personal stamp on it, and the way to do that is to fill it with items that fit your personality. There are many ways to do that, and here are a few ideas so that you bring your home together through a great diversity of mediums.

So think a bit more out of the box as to where to get your things from. Check out garage sales and market places, consignment shops are a good place for bargain, and my personal favorite, Craigslist.

The used furniture for sale on the Craigslist site is generally good quality with very little wear and tear. You can save 50% or more on what you would pay at a store.

If you like a good rummage, then you’ll love garage sales. Amongst the junk there are some surprising finds to be had.

When you go to garage and yard sales don’t expect top quality stuff at rock bottom prices, this is generally merchandise that they don’t expect will make enough to warrant a classified ad. Saying that, even if you don’t buy anything, they are great for getting ideas from, and that battered old chest of drawers could look great with a lick of paint and new handles.

Markets is general tend to sell goods of a lesser quality at low prices. There are many craftsmen, however, who take a regular stall and sell the furniture that they have made themselves. If you are lucky enough to find stalls like these then you are onto a winner as these tend to be very good quality but cost only a little more than the price of the materials.

If any of your neighbors advertise that they are having a yard sale, get yourself along there. There may be lots of stuff for sale as often when you hold a yard sales family get you to shift stuff for them too. The quality tends to be pretty good too as they are selling to friends and neighbors and don’t want to be talked about for selling junk.

Look out for fliers on lampposts and word of mouth so you don’t miss out on this kind of sale. There are great bargain to be had and you don’t want to be the one to miss out.

Promoting To The Masses

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

If you were to create a self-cleaning fabric, the world may want to beat a path to your door to acquire some from you, but first of all they will have to be aware that the textile exists, that it is available for purchase, and they have to be aware of where your door is. This requires advertising.

There are two classifications of advertising: institutional and product. Institutional advertising markets the name of your business in general and product advertising markets a product or range of products or services. The sort of publicity that a company needs, depends on the products or services that it provides.

Furthermore, some types of advertising lend themselves better to institutional advertising more readily than product advertising. For example, a shop sign, a sign-written van or a promotional calendar are better suited to institutional advertising, while a newspaper or magazine advert would be better for advertising the latest special offer.

There are few facts and figures available that reveal the astonishing growth of the mass consumption society as well as those dealing with the expansion of the advertising industry. For instance, prior to the Second World War, US average annual expenditure on advertising per year had been about $2 billion for decades.

In 1950, as the post-war economy started to recover , American businesses spent $5.7 billion to advertise its goods and services. By 1960, that amount had doubled to $12 billion. By 1970, American business was spending $20.

Between 1970 and 1990, as the children Baby Boomers became adults and started earning and spending, advertising expenditure went through the roof, so that by 1986, it had reached $100 billion.

That extraordinary rate of growth could not be sustained, but by 1999, total expenditure on all forms of advertising topped $215 billion . The latest available figures are for 2007 and they stand at $280 billion.

In 1999, nearly 60% of all advertising dollars were spent on adverts in newspapers, magazines, on the radio and on television. By 2007, that figure had fallen to about 54% as the Internet started to have an effect on advertising trends. These trends are expected to continue as every firm is expected to have its own web site these days.

The nation’s biggest advertisers are the manufacturers of cars, food, soft drinks, tobacco and beer and they filter most of their expenditure through about 13,000 advertising agencies., who usually make the ads and acquire the space or air time from the media too.

These agencies have been transformed over the last decade by mergers. The most successful advertising agencies these days are huge international concerns. WPP, the largest advertising agency in the world, billed $37 billion in 2008 and had this to say about itself:

“Our total revenue in 2008 surpassed that of all our competitors, regaining the No.1 worldwide position for the third time”.

Garden Sprayer: How To Make Your Very Own Lawn Sprayer As A Repellent

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Summer season tends to make me happy. I really like taking a swim, watching baseball, and not wearing socks for 4 months. But if there’s one thing about summer that bugs me, it’s … well, bugs. Not only are mosquito bites itchy as well as painful, they are also hazardous. Going outside, particularly to a wooded place, without any insect repellent isn’t an option. But insect repellents, as you could see, are not eco-friendly or particularly healthy for you. Many are created using DEET, which is noteworthy in warding off pests but not something you would like swimming about inside your blood vessels, which is precisely where it ends up after you spray it on the skin. Fortunately, for those who want to protect their health by steering clear of both bug bites and chemical-based bug repellents, there are all kinds of do-it-yourself recipes for natural insect sprays.

Google “make your very own bug repellent” and you’ll get more recipes than you can shake a stick at. (I’ve never understood that expression, but obviously that doesn’t prevent me from using it.) In a lot of recipes, the key ingredients are alcohol (either rubbing or the kind you could drink) plus essential oils. Here’s one that a lot of people recommend.

The ingredients are: 1 cup of grain alcohol (organic if available), vodka, or witch hazel30 drops essential oils (lavender, citronella, rosemary, rose geranium, lemon, or tea tree oil (pick one or a mix of just two). Here are the instructions. Put all of the ingredients inside a spray bottle. Shake very well. Spray liberally throughout the skin just before going outside. Reapply as necessary.

The ingredient are 1 cup of grain alcohol (organic if available), vodka, or perhaps witch hazel and 30 drops essential oils (lavender, citronella, rosemary, rose geranium, lemon, or tea tree oil (choose one or a mix of only two). The first step is to put all of the materials inside a spray bottle. Shake very well. Spray liberally all over the skin prior to heading outdoors. Reapply as required. This formula should also defend against ticks, fleas, wasps, and other undesirable pests. Keep your homemade repellent in a dark bottle far from heat and sunshine.

Preventive care is critical for animals, just as it is for humans. ANIMALS have got emotions, attitudes and personalities just like humans. To look after an animal, it is helpful to observe the animal and learn how to differentiate between normal regular behavior and behavior that is unusual and out of balance.
