Troubleshooting A Microwave Oven

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Microwave oven is amongst the electrical items that are small but the tricky errors can be solved without the need of an expert. There are problems associated with such devices that keep coming back. Usually, these problems can be tackled without the help of an expert. However, a word or two from an expert would prove handy while repairing an electrical device.

Replacing the handle of the microwave needs no special skills and it calls for a careful action only. First of all, get a putty knife and take away the trim around the door. If the trim is held in place by a tab then remove it carefully as these tabs can crack easily. When the screws holding the handle in place are visible, you can unscrew them to replace the handle.

If the microwave is not working due to a fire in the apparatus then look for the oven’s thermostat safety switch. Nowadays, most of the microwaves have this feature. It is used to turn microwave off when something inside the microwave catches fire.

Before changing the bulb of the microwave, turn off the power supply to the microwave safely. If the power supply remains switched on during the replacement of the bulb then it can damage the uprightness of the smart board of the microwave.

If microwave produces sparks when you are using it then it is due to the splashed food that has carbonized in the wave guard area. To avoid the trouble, keep your microwave neat and clean from insides and outsides especially around the wave guard area.

If the countdown timer on the display is running and the light inside the microwave is also working, but it is not producing the heating effect then this could be accredited to a faulty door switch.

Put yourself on the safe side while repairing of the microwave is in progress. Do it by turning off the power supply to the microwave. By doing so, you are eliminating the threat of any electric shock possible.

Be careful while working with the electrical devices as they can produce sparks.

How Bathroom Extractor Fans Are Useful?

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Bathroom is considered to be a closed place where moisture gets easily formed. So to get rid of the moisture bathroom needs a fan which can draw the moisture and the dry air outside the bathroom. Exhaust fans are used in many bathrooms to have a grip over the moisture and give right kind of ventilation.

Bathroom extractor fan can be of two types: propeller or axial fan and the centrifugal fan. Propeller or axial fan is the same as the regular fan we use in our homes. It circulates and moves the air by circular movements. There is no need of large pressure in moving it. These fans are inexpensive and very efficient.

Another type of extractor fans is centrifugal fans which are not that popular for bathrooms. The centrifugal force is used to force out the air out of the radial vanes in the plates. You can fit these fans yourself as they come with fitting instructions.

The function of an extractor fan is that it extracts the dry air out when it is turned on. These fans have blades or impellers attached to the electric motor. When the motor starts rotating, it pulls the air and disposes out of the grille.

The axial fan and the centrifugal fan can be mounted in two places. You can mount it on the window but you’ll need to make a hole in the glass. For this you will require a special tool for cutting holes. But you can also mount it on the wall. You need to have a drill to make the hole in the wall. Depending upon the thickness of the wall, it can take long time to be drilled. It is also very tedious job as you need to make a force on the drill.

There are also fans which are built with automatic cut-off switches. When the humidity is more, the switch is turned off automatically, and when the humidity is low, it turns on again.

It is necessary to maintain the fan regularly in order to have your fan keep working at maximum capacity.

A fuse-spur is connected in most of the extractor fans which is normally fitted outside the bathroom fitting. In order to work properly, the extractor fan should be placed perfectly. The location should be chosen in such a way that the extractor fan will replace the fresh air by drawing the stale air.
