Three Very Important Safety Tips To Bare In Mind
Thursday, February 9th, 2012Who knows the exact number of people who enjoy gardening. These days you can find gardens in many different places. Maybe it’s just us trying to keep a hold of what’s natural and lovely. However the tools out there now will enable us to take proper care of our gardens. It’s very easy to simply be careless or to use chemicals without knowing about the dangers. Also, you can injure yourself if you’re a bit out of shape and you’re working outside all day. Let’s see how we can stay safe and healthy as we develop our gardens.
There really isn’t anything quite like beautiful flowers that come from bulbs. Maybe you’ve already seen loads of colorful tulips and other bulb flowers before. The internet has provided lots of bulbs that can be readily bought. I certainly recommend that you do some research to find a reputable site with some good reviews before you buy.
But there are advantages to buying locally because you can put your hands on the bulbs and see for your self. Always make sure you are getting healthy bulbs that are firm and not soft. When you inspect them, only buy those that are free of damage such as cuts and nicks. One of the most common hand injuries is the cut or laceration. Obviously if it is severe, you may require stitches. You can help minimize cuts to your hands by wearing proper gloves while you work in your garden. Even if it is hot outside, avoid the temptation to remove them. You can find different types of gloves that are designed for different hazards and uses. A light weight, thin glove that may look nice and be comfortable really is almost next to useless. So be sure to wear the appropriate weight gloves at all times. If you are working with liquid chemicals, wear rubber gloves and not cloth so you can protect your skin.
Perhaps all of us know the feeling of a long days work out in the garden and yard. If you are not used to this kind of activity, then you also know the feeling of waking up the next day and being sore. There are two primary concerns with garden work, taking care of your knees and your back. We like to wear the simple athletic knee pads when working in the garden. They are great and work perfectly to help keep our knees from getting sore. They will also help reduce the pain when you kneel down on a rock. For your back, it is helpful to take frequent breaks so you can stand up and relax the back muscle. But do not forget about proper lifting, either, and the golden rule is lift with your legs and not your back.
When it comes to gardening, there’s so much to consider and go over. But, with a bit of common sense and some precautions there’s no reason to worry. So, you should plan your garden to enable both you and your family to enjoy it.
