How To Hook Up The Motion Sensor On Existing Light Fixture ?

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

A home security system is essential to keeping your property well-guarded. Well lit homes, whether it is indoor or outdoor lighting, are an important safety measure against thieves and burglars. Dipping into the psychology of a thief, darkness and shadows create a perfect cover for skulking and hiding. Home security lighting provides the home owner protection against these law breakers along with other necessary security measures.

Not only are motion sensor lights great for discouraging potential break-ins and other threats, but because they turn off automatically they save energy. The write up below provides you the steps to easily install the motion sensor.

Since there are plenty of motion sensors available, choose the one that goes with your existing exterior lighting. Now, before getting indulged into the electrical project, turn off the main circuit breaker.

Untwist the wires to remove the fixture from the wall. Cut the wires if necessary-if you need to cut them you’ll also need to strip some insulation so you can reattach them to the new fixture. Test the circuit with the voltage tester to ensure no electricity in the circuit.

Use the drill and hole saw to create the access hole for the motion sensor. Slip the rubber weatherproofing grommet over the motion sensor’s wires and shaft. Take your motion sensor and guide the wires through the new access hole until the shaft is through the hole. Use the included lock nut to secure the motion sensor to the fixture.

Once you’re sure there is no power coming to the line, remove the cap nut to expose conjoined wires. You will have to untwist the wires to remove the fixture from the wall. Notice that the white wires are connected to white, black to black, etc. This same pattern will be followed when you go to mount the new fixture. Secure the wires with the wire caps and nuts. Also, wrap electrical tape over the wires.

In the similar way, conjoin the white wire of the electrical box with the white wires of the fixture and the sensor. Make the connections for the other wires also. If there is grounding wire, attach it to the light box.

Once the light is installed, aim the single or dual lights to the area you want lighted. Adjust the position of the motion sensor so that the lights come on at the first point of detection. This may take a few tries before you are satisfied with the results.

Need For Installing UPS With Your Personal Computers

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

With the modernization of globe, computers and micro-controller operated devices are highly in demand. One cannot think of life without computers as most of the appliances are more or less computer and microprocessor dependent. Since they store a large amount of important data, these need to be protected against catastrophic power breakdown. So, uninterrupted power supply shortly known as UPS are the most advantageous devices.

Power outages, corresponding to a break in the power supply for a given amount of time or voltage spikes when powerful devices are stopped or started, your computer shuts off which results in data loss. However, if a UPS is positioned between the load such as computers and other data handling equipments and the main power supply, this will prevent the catastrophic shutting down of the appliances.

Since equipments like computers store very important and official data and are sensitive to sudden voltage surges need to be protected with this device. If one fails to protect the appliance with UPS, the data stored there gets completely corrupted. But, this uninterrupted power supply system provides you a stable and fixed voltage. Besides, a frequent variation often considered as fluctuations is noticed in the voltage. This can impair the working of the appliances. Moreover, the data stored in that appliance gets totally corrupted.

Inverter is a device that any UPS would include for the effective and continuous performance. It is basically used in transforming of DC voltage into AC voltage. And so depending on that, UPS are categorized in three main types.

The word on line indicates its function. Since, shutting off the appliances like ventilators and other medical equipments can lead to death of a patient; these are served by this UPS type. These do not depend on frequency and voltage fluctuations and are therefore termed as voltage and frequency independent. These are preferred to places such as critical networks, servers and hospitals.

As compared to the on line UPS, interactive or off line UPS are less sophisticated uninterrupted power supply. These are applicable for home appliances protection and don’t remain active all the time.

Home UPS are also provided with a rechargeable battery system that carries reserved direct current to the inverter at the time when AC power supply is not available.

The UPS helps to “smooth out” voltage, i.e. eliminate peaks that are over a certain level. Also, these are very reliable and cost effective solution to abrupt power failures. This makes them highly preferred among homeowners and companies.

Uninterrupted Power Supply And Its Types

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

Nowadays, market is flooded with various types of UPS manufactured bu different companies. This is basically due to their ability in providing uninterrupted power supply to the equipments that carry precious data. Therefore, UPS has become a source to prevent data corruptions that largely happens due to over currents or power failure.

Whenever a voltage spike or dip is noticed, your computer shuts off which results in data loss. However, if a UPS is positioned between the load such as computers and other data handling equipments and the main power supply, this will prevent the catastrophic shutting down of the appliances.

As stated above, even a minor variation in voltage is enough to hinder the proper functioning of the appliances. The data that is stored in the appliances get deteriorate due to abrupt voltage changes. Now, you can stop this data degradation by connecting a UPS with your data containing equipments.

UPS consists of many components and devices in itself each performing a different function. Inverter is one such device that any UPS include. It is basically used for the conversion of DC voltage into AC voltage. And so depending on that, UPS are of three main types.

As the name suggests on line UPS remain active at all times so as to avoid any kind of risk. These do not depend on frequency and voltage fluctuations and are therefore termed as voltage and frequency independent. Telecommunication equipments, servers and other important networks are being served by this UPS type.

Less sophisticated uninterrupted power supply is one that is provided by line interactive or off line UPS systems. These are applicable for home appliances protection and doesn’t remain active all the time.

As the power is cut, equipments switch over to UPS for their operation. For this a battery is provided in the UPS to carry out the work when power goes off. So, battery also forms an inseparable part of UPS.

UPS being the most reliable and cost effective solution to abrupt power failures, is therefore used by most of the homeowners and companies.
