Recessed lights are ideal for task areas where you require good focused lighting to perform the task conveniently. It is good for areas like kitchen counter, bathroom vanity etc.
Recessed lights are actually multi-purpose lighting fixtures. They can also be used as accent lights to accent some special objects of a room like a painting or a plant etc. For small living rooms, use recessed lights on light colored walls. This will create a shadow and contrast effect, thus making your room look larger.
