The Nespresso CitiZ – Your Next Espresso Machine?
Saturday, February 4th, 2012The Nespresso CitiZ makes surprisingly good coffee. I say surprising because this machine uses coffee capsules instead of fresh ground coffee. Nestle, the manufacturer, offers a nice variety of flavors to choose from so you are sure to find something you like. It’s quick and easy to use too.
The machine itself is relatively small. It’s thinner than a typical drip coffee maker, and slightly deeper. This would be a nice choice for a apartment or small kitchens with limited space. I like the look of it, it’s elegant and modern, and I think it looks nice on the counter top.
Operating the machine is about as simple as it gets. You fill up the water container and turn on the switch. In about 2 minutes the light is steady green. You open up the top and drop in a pellet of coffee and as you shut it, the pellet is pierced. You press to choose the “short” or “long” shot and out comes your espresso.
What really sets it apart besides the great espresso and simple operation is the integrated milk frother. You can get this machine separate from the aeroccino or built together as with this product. It is very quick and easy to froth milk, which basically involves pouring a set amount of milk into a special container and putting a lid on it and then pressing a button.
The pods or espresso capsules come sealed with perfectly ground coffee. The tins are recyclable aluminum and lined with a film to prevent the coffee from contact the metal directly. In one of the few drawbacks, the coffee capsules are only available from one source, the Nespresso Club on the company website.
rom start to finish, you can warm up the machine, froth the milk, make two shots of espresso, and rinse out the frother in about five or six minutes. After brewing the use capsules are ejected into a container within the machine. It holds about eight pellets and is easily removable for disposing of your used coffee. Clean up is a breeze.
This is great machine and I would highly recommend it. If you want great espresso and you want it quick with no fuss, it’s hard to beat the Nespresso CitiZ.
