Knowing how to care for your flower garden can make a big difference in the look and over-all health of your plants. Here are some simple hints to make your garden bloom with health

1. The essentials must always be given major consideration.

Your flower garden must have an adequate supply of water, sunlight, and fertile soil. Any lack of these basic necessities will greatly affect the health of plants. Water the flower garden more frequently during dry spells.

When planting bulbs, make sure they go at the correct depth. When planting out shrubs and perennials, make sure that you don’t heap soil or mulch up around the stem. If you do, water will drain off instead of sinking in, and the stem could develop rot through overheating.

2. Mix and match perennials with annuals.

Perennial flower bulbs need not to be replanted since they grow and bloom for several years while annuals grow and bloom for only one season. Mixing a few perennials with annuals ensures that you will always have blooms coming on.

3. Deadhead to encourage more blossoms.

Deadheading is simply snipping off the flower head after it wilts. This will make the plant produce more flowers. Just make sure that you don’t discard the deadhead on the garden or mildew and other plant disease will attack your plants.

4. Know the good from the bad bugs.

Most garden insects do more good than harm. Butterflies, beetles and bees are known pollinators. They fertilize plants through unintentional transfer of pollen from one plant to another. 80% of flowering plants rely on insects for survival.

Sowbugs and dung beetles together with fungi, bacteria and other microorganisms are necessary to help in the decomposition of dead plant material, thus enriching the soil and making more nutrients available to growing plants.

Other insects like lacewings and dragonflies are natural predators of those insects that do the real damage, like aphis.

For a gardener, squirrels are just rats with blow-dried tail. The thing about squirrels is that they always look out for food. They think that your newly planted beds in your garden might contain something that they like to eat-like seeds and bulbs. And there is nothing more disheartening than seeing your seedling or newly planted bulbs being gnawed and chewed to bits by squirrels.

Find out how to get rid of squirrels in your garden. Have you always wanted to quit smoking but can’t? Or know someone who wants to quit this deadly habit? Click here to learn how to do it.

The Intex Krystal Clear Deluxe Pool Maintenance Kit is one of the best selling and most popular above ground pool vacuums. It is one of the most popular kits for above ground pool owners. It includes all the tools needed to get your pool up and running. The included above ground pool vacuum is a manual cleaner that sucks up debris easily. It is ideal for new pool operators that want the necessary tools to keep their pool clean and in perfect condition. It is also perfect for experienced pool owners that wish to upgrade their maintenance equipment.

The Vacuum

The vacuum works perfectly! It easily picks up debris, dust, sand, pebbles, leaves, insects, and small sticks. It does not pick up larger rocks, but you ca not expect a manual vacuum to be able to pick up big stones. But seriously, how often would big rocks get into the pool unless someone tossed them in? If you need something to pick up large rocks, you would need a robotic cleaner.

The only problem with this product is that the suction could have been a little more powerful, though that is more an issue of my pool pump being too weak. As with any above ground pool vacuum, a hearty pump means a hearty vacuum, and a weak pump means a weak vacuum. Thankfully, above ground pool pumps are not as expensive to replace as inground pool pumps.

The bottom line is that this cleaner works incredibly well. If you have an Intex above ground pool that came with a vacuum, this is not the same model. This is an improved product that far outperforms the included cleaner. It is one of the most effective manual pool vacuums. And though it is not as hearty as an automatic pool vacuum, it certainly does the job.

The Hose

The hose included with the Intex Krystal Clear Deluxe Pool Maintenance Kit is perfect to use with pools with a diameter of 18 feet or greater. This size is great for just about any above ground pool. If the pool is fewer than that 18 feet across, you will simply have some extra hose, but it would be no problem.

The Brush

The brush attaches to the pole. It is perfect for scrubbing the sides and floor of the pool’s surface. It is great for scraping off any tough dirt or algae. Then, after you scrub the surface and loosen the algae, you can connect the cleaner to the pole and vacuum it up throughout the pool filter.

The Skimmer Basket

The skimmer basket works perfectly. You will only need to connect it to the side of your pool with the included parts. Then you adjust it to the level of the water. Then the pool’s pump sucks the water through the filter in the basket, and it automatically cleanses the water during the whole time that the pump is operating.

The Oversized Skimmer

The oversized skimmer connects to the pole. You use it manually, which allows you to spot clean the surface and remove particles that may be floating on the surface. The rim of the skimmer is wide and the fine mesh bag is much deeper than most skimmers, which allows you to collect a lot leaves and debris before you have to empty it.

The Filter

The Filter connects with ease. Once it is attached, you can automatically chlorinate the pool. Just drop in the required amount of chlorine tablets into the skimmer and let it do its work, where it will contain them as they gradually dissolve into the pool’s water.

Overall, the Intex Krystal Clear Deluxe Pool Maintenance Kit is one of the best values for a pool cleaning kit. Each item that is included is sturdy and depedable. As for manual vacuums, the one included in this kit is better than most. It is a great above ground pool cleaner for anybody who wishes to have a sparkling pool without needing to spend a fortune on equipment.

Does your family like to go picnicking? If so, are you advocates of picnic blankets or picnic tables? Normal picnic goers have their favourites, you know! Some picnickers are hard and fast picnic blanket people while others like to sit at a picnic table. In this article we will take a look at the pros and cons of picnic blankets and picnic tables.

The first thought is where are you going to hold this picnic? Is it going to be in your garden, in the country or on the beach? Picnic tables and their chairs do not settle very well in sand, so unless you can nail your table and seats to a set of old skis, you will almost certainly find it easier to use blankets on the beach. In this case, use something that the sand sticks to like wool, because it cuts down on the sand drifting into the sandwiches.

The next consideration is, what was the weather like the day before? That is, is the grass likely to be wet or even muddy? If it is likely to be wet, then you will not want to be sitting on wet blankets and wet grass, although you could lay a waterproof sheet like a tarpaulin under the blanket. However, if it is likely to be muddy, I would be in favour of postponing the picnic until a drier time.

The next thought is the fitness of the people you are going to be picnicking with. Are they physically capable of sitting on the ground and getting back up again? Many elderly people are not, neither are the overweight or people with bad backs or bad knees. If you want to take blankets anyway, you will have to provide chairs for these people and they can eat off their knees.

Another thought is the amount of guests that have been invited. Picnic tables mostly seat four or six; six or eight at a shove, so if you are expecting twenty people, that is quite a few tables and chairs. Not many households can run to four or five picnic tables and twenty seats, but you could think about having the adults seated at tables and the children on blankets.

If you just can not get hold of the required number of tables and seats, perhaps some of your guests could bring their own to supplement what you already have. Most people are quite willing to chip in if they have anything you can use.

Whether you choose picnic blankets or picnic seats depends on several factors including your own personal preference, but it is almost certainly true to generalize that a younger group of picnicker will almost certainly prefer a traditional picnic on a blanket, whilst an older group will prefer sitting at picnic tables.

Therefore, in a mixed group of young and old, you ought to provide both picnic blankets and picnic tables roughly in proportion to the number of your guests who are older or younger, say over and under forty years of age.

Owen Jones, the writer of that article, writes on a number of topics, but is now concerned with the Handmade Baby Blanket.
